Our Vision

Enabling girls and young women to grow into confident,
self-respecting, responsible community members

Girl Guides Australia is comprised of seven member organisations, one in each of the six States and the Northern Territory. Girls 5-18 years and women from 18 years join Guides in their local community and become members of their State organisation. Each organisation offers girls the opportunity to enjoy Guiding through the Australian

Since 1996, all members have been referred to as Guides. The younger girls (formerly Gumnut Guides aged 5-6 years, Brownie Guides aged 7- 11 years, Girl Guides 11-14 years, Ranger Guides 14-18 years and Rangers 18-25 years) love being known as Guides and having the opportunities to wear the same uniform from a range of brightly coloured options as their older sisters and do similar activities at an age-appropriate level. Girls are a member of a Guide Unit of similar aged girls in their community. Guides discover, decide, plan, participate and check their program with the guidance of a trained adult volunteer Leader.

"Our method of training is to educate from within rather than to instruct from without; to offer games and activities which, while being attractive to the girl, will seriously educate her morally, mentally and physically." Girl Guiding by Lord Baden-Powell (1918)
