Why are you collecting funds?
Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death of all
gynaecological cancers. In Australia, ovarian cancer
claims the life of one woman every ten hours. No
simple or effective early screening method currently
exists, meaning that most women are already in the
advanced stages of the disease when diagnosed. The
key to changing this statistic and giving women with
ovarian cancer a better long-term outlook is early
detection.
Established in May
2000 and led by eminent gynaecological oncology
specialist, Associate Professor Thomas Jobling, and
CEO/Co-Founder Liz Heliotis, the Ovarian Cancer
Research Foundation (OCRF) aims to raise community
awareness of this insidious disease and to develop
and implement an early detection test that
ultimately becomes as readily available and habitual
as a pap smear or breast mammography in every
woman's regular medical.
